Vineyard & Winery
GALER'S STORY
Brad and Lele Galer started Galer Estate Vineyard and Winery in 2005 when they created a 7 acre vineyard on their home property in Pocopson. With expert viticulture consulting from Lucie Morton, and Vineyard Management from Jan Grimes, the "Home Vineyard" was planted. In 2007, the Galers bought "Folly Hill Winery" on 700 Folly Hill Road in Kennett Square, and then proceeded on a 4 year re-construction plan that included a state-of-the art Fermentation room, art-inspired tasting room, replanted vineyard, French oak barrel room and wine bottling and labeling facility. We opened to the public in November of 2011, and have won over 150 medals and awards for our Chester County produced and made wines.
The idea was to make the best possible quality wine that we could make, using locally produced fruit, the most advanced equipment, and an excellent wine maker. Depending on the vintage, 70-90% of the grapes we use are from our own Chester County Galer Vineyards (Red Lion Vineyard and Home Vineyard), and the remainder come from vineyards within a 30 mile radius of the winery.
Brad Galer is a pharmaceutical executive who is a Neurologist specializing in chronic pain and pediatric epilepsy, and he is lead singer in the rock band "the Pharmers". His passion for wine was what started the Galers on their winery journey. Lele Galer manages the winery, and is also an artist (painter and sculptor www.lelegaler.com), writer and is very involved in the arts community and local non-profits. They have raised three sons in Chester County. They credit the winery's success to the commitment and expertise of their wonderful staff and the incredibly supportive Chester County community!
